The Disreputable History of Frankie Landau-Banks
by E. Lockhart

Though not, in hindsight, so startling as the misdeeds she would perpetrate when she returned to boarding school as a sophomore, what happened to Frankie Landau-Banks the summer after her freshman year was a shock.

Between May and September, she gained four inches and twenty pounds, all in the right places.

She transformed from a homely child into a loaded potato.

Frankie, an independent kind of person, falls for the most gorgeous boy at school, Matthew Livingston. Matthew Livingston has a secret, though. The kind of secret an independent kind of person wants to know more about. Frankie embarks upon finding the Disreputable History of the Loyal Order of the Basset Hounds.

Before her sophomore year is over, Frankie will lead her associates in several "mal-doings", which culminates in the disappearance of the "guppy." When the truth is revealed, Frankie learns the true worth of Matthew's secret and of her place at Alabaster Prep.

From the author of Dramarama comes another story about a strong protagonist who learns that her wants do not match her needs. Readers will enjoy Frankie's escapades, but will also be intrigued by her fascination with a society she clearly finds undesirable.

This synopsis was written by a San José Public Library librarian.
