The King Reference Unit (KRU) Document Delivery assists patrons with their informational, curricular, and research needs. Reference inquiries may involve requests for delivery of full-text materials (especially magazine and journal articles) through email, fax, or postal mail.
Full-text articles available in San Jose Public Library (SJPL) and San Jose State University (SJSU) subscription databases, and photocopies of some print reference materials, may be sent to authorized users (as defined under Requirements and Guidelines below) via email, fax, or postal mail.
Songbook, Sheet Music, & Stock Music Collections are available. Residents of California's South Bay Area are invited to pay an in-person visit to the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Library to make photocopies from the songbook, sheet music and stock music collections. Those who reside outside the library's primary service area may contact their city's local library to request a photocopy through Interlibrary Loan. San José Public Library does not lend material from these collections or mail or fax copies to individuals from these collections.
See: ( http://www.sjlibrary.org/research/special/music_coll/.)
Reference document delivery will be controlled by fair use copyright guidelines and vendor database licensing agreements (which permit remote access only to authorized users as defined below).
Reference document delivery for disabled patrons is governed by the Disabilities Services Policy. (See PL-208)

Subscription Databases
Articles will only be delivered to authorized database users.
For remote access to subscription databases “authorized users” are defined as follows:
- SJSU: faculty, staff and currently enrolled students of the university.
- SJPL: current cardholders of San Jose Public Library
If the patron is not an authorized user for remote access to the database, the librarian will offer the following options to the patron:
- Information about in-house access within the King library (for SJSU and SJPL subscription databases) or branch access (for SJPL subscription databases).
- Information on library print or microfilm holdings for the item
- Instruction on how to place an Interlibrary Services request for an article
