Statement of Policy & Text
This policy establishes the method for handling periodicals and newspapers at the new King Library.
  • Periodicals are cataloged according to the Library of Congress classification system and shelved in call number order.
  • Newspapers are shelved by title in alphabetical order.
  • Periodicals, including newspapers, are kept for varying amounts of time, and as determined by which library owns the subscription.

Need for the Policy
SJSU and SJPL agreed to use the Library of Congress classification system for the merged periodical collections in the King Library.
