SPECIAL COLLECTIONS LOCKER POLICY

print thisPrint This

Statement of Policy & Text
The lockers located at the northwest corner of the atrium on the 5th floor outside the Special Collections shared display area are for the exclusive use of customers needing to store personal items while using Special Collections reading rooms.

Need for the Policy
Because some archival collections often consist of unbound, fragile, and unique primary source materials, standard archival policy is used to prevent customers from bringing personal items such as backpacks, binders, food, drink, or other items that could compromise the security and preservation of the Special Collection's archival materials. The lockers provide for the secure storage of these personal items while using the collections.

Requirements & Guidelines
  • The lockers are for the exclusive use of customers who need to store personal items while using materials in the research rooms of The Ira F. Brilliant Center for Beethoven Studies and The Martha Heasley Cox Center for Steinbeck Studies.
  • Personal items allowed in each of the Special Collections reading rooms are at the discretion of each department.
  • The lockers require tokens for operation. The tokens will be stored and distributed by the appropriate Special Collections department.
  • Customers shall remove all of their personal items from the locker upon leaving the Special Collections area. Day storage, overnight storage, or temporary storage while using collections in other parts of the library is not permitted.
  • The tokens will be removed from the lockers and returned for reuse by The Ira F. Brilliant Center for Beethoven Studies.

Applicable Personnel/Departments
  • The Ira F. Brilliant Center for Beethoven Studies; California Room; San José State University Special Collections and Archives; Sourisseau Academy for State and Local History; and The Martha Heasley Cox Center for Steinbeck Studies.
