The Periodicals merged unit of the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Library assists customers with general questions about periodicals, microform materials, government publications, historical children books, and historical textbooks in person or by phone. Periodicals staff answers directional and technical questions concerning the collection and electronic resources. Periodicals staff also provides demonstrations and trouble shooting of microform machine usage.
Need for the Policy
The complexity and diversity of the Lower Level collection often requires assistance and explanation. Customers may require brief training and demonstration of the microform equipment.
Requirements & Guidelines
Although the periodicals staff handles directional and technical questions, general and academic questions related to subject research, research strategy or librarian consultation will be referred to the Reference Department.
The Lower Level service desk provides:
Assistance to customers with the collection
Assistance in navigating the Library website
Library catalog search help
Citation interpretation
Orientation to databases and electronic journals
Microform searches and demonstrations of microform machine operation
Applicable Personnel/Departments
Periodicals and microform staff assigned at the King library lower level service desk.
